LIFE {as an artform} August 6, 2010

Where do I start to describe the experience I had in May on Jesh de Rox's workshop in Cheshire? Its taken me all this time to attempt to gather my thoughts and work out what I learnt, and am still leraning from the experience.

I so very nearly missed out - first Jesh couldn't make it over because of the volanic ash cloud, then my life conspired to make it very difficult to get three days away. I even e-mailed Jesh to say I wasn't going to make it - but as always he had wise words for me - "in my experience, when something is this challenging, it's a sign it's going to be an extraordinarily beautiful experience if i can find a way to flow through the obstacles."
I'm not sure how many times Jesh has been here before, but he's certainly had more than just the once round!

I was lucky enough to be just one of five attending the workshop, and this made for a very safe, nurturing and caring space for us all to be in and share our life experiences good and bad with each other. We had all signed up to the workshop for very different reasons, we are all at different stages in our lives, both professionally and personally, but I feel I made friends for life with everyone there.

Whilst we were all photographers, this wasnt about f-stops, but about learning to experience life in an authentic way, and connecting with people at a deep level.

Jesh's Beloved sessions are all about a couple actually experiencing emotion during their shoot together. The idea is that the images created will serve as a reminder to them of the deep love they have during times in their lives when, frankly life takes over. We all do it, take people for granted and forget what it was that actually attracted us to that special person in the first place.

The images created in a Beloved Session are an everlasting reminder, not to take that love for granted, but to nurture it.

I hope to be showing you soem more results of the lessons learnt over the next few months, but for now, here are some images from May, including some of Sam & Caroline who kindly told us their amazing story.

We are hoping Jesh is coming back to the UK next year - probably May again. If you are interesting in attending his workshop, let me know as we are starting to get things booked.

Thank you to Jesh for the team photo and Louise for some of the "experiment" images!!

Amelia's Christening February 24, 2010

Recently my brother and sister in law asked me to document my youngest niece's Christening. So last weekend we packed up the dog (affectionately known as Aunty Bumpy to the girls!!) and headed for Derby to celebrate Amelia. Thanks for a great weekend Jeremy and Catherine, you'll be impressed to know the slab of cake you sent us home with made it the entire journey and we didn't stop once to stock up on sausage rolls. It was great to meet friends and family and I hope you enjoy these images. Grandparents........have your Kleenex handy!!!
Love Bec xxx

If you'd like information on family portrait sessions, please call on 0191 222 1309 or email me at bec@alisongroves.com. Maybe we could arrange to do a shoot next time I'm visiting Jeremy and Catherine!!

North Bradbury Farm November 8, 2009

Over the half term break, I took my boys down to Devon to stay at North Bradbury Farm. Our hosts, Chris & Tracey Wilson have two cottages on their farm in the converted stables and cider press. We couldn't have felt more welcome!
Chris takes the kids out to feed the animals morning and night....chickens (who provided us with delicious eggs for our soldiers!), ducks, pigs (bubble and squeak), the horses......the boys absolutely loved it - and after only one go at feeding, Tom was the expert!!
We are trying to find a time to go back - but they are so popular its proving difficult!! I should really keep this gem to myself - but couldnt help wanting to share!!
check out the website at NORTH BRADBURY FARM

The boys spent all week in their wellies and waterproof trousers - essential kit!!

Whilst we were there Trouper and Torrent arrived! Check those ears!!
